Business conglomerate Sahara bagged Pune while little known consortium Rendezvous Sports World Limited clinched Kochi as the Indian Premier League, on Sunday, unveiled two new teams joining the cash-awash Twenty20 league from the 2011 season.
IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi said Sahara Adventure Sports Group made an identical $370 million bid for three cities, Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Pune.

"They made the highest bid for all three cities and were asked to choose one of the cities. Accordingly, Pune will be their home ground," Modi told reporters.

Rendezvous made the second highest bid, on Sunday, and their offer of $333.33 million was enough to land the Kochi franchise, Modi said.

"In all, five groups qualified for the bid. The bidding was extremely competitive and I hope they make good business," Modi said.

Interestingly, these two new franchises were sold for an amount which, when combined, is bigger than the worth of the original eight franchises put together.

Apart from the two successful bidders, other groups which took part in the bidding were Adani Groups, VC Digital Solution (Videocon) and a Pune consortium.

Sahara's bid for Pune was way better than what the Adani group ($315 million) or the Pune consortium ($261.3 million) had to offer.

Modi dismissed speculation that Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor had financial interest in the bid for Kochi franchise and said the minister's role was confined to "facilitating" the bid.

"Mr Tharoor was involved in facilitating and trying to get a team from Kochi to bid. He is an ardent fan of the game who wanted a team from Kochi and his role ends there," Modi said.

The cities in the fray were Pune, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Kanpur, Dharamsala, Vizag, Rajkot, Cuttack, Baroda, Kochi, Indore and Gwalior.

The Videocon group apparently had the backing of Bollywood superstars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor but they failed to bag a team.

Shahrukh to decide new KKR captain and coach in meeting

Saurav Ganguly showed his interest to act as new CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) president. At the moment, former BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India) and ICC (International Cricket Council) Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya is the president of Cricket Association of Bengal and he is running his from Eden Garden Cricket Ground.

It is being said that as a rotation policy in 2014 new president of BCCI will be selected from East Zone (mainly KOlkata). Right now, the present presideny of BCCI is Mr. Sharad Powar (West Zone - Mumbai) and president of T20 Cricket is Mr. Lalit Modi (North Zone - Rajashthan). Sharad Powar has also played great role in Indian general politics. He is one of the very few leaders in India, to whom it is tough to beat in any kind of election. But few years back, Jagmohan Dalmiya was able to do that but then very next year after that Jagmohan Dalmiya had to loose from Mr. Sharad Powar.

Sourav Ganguly fans are expecting that in the upcoming CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) election, Saurav Ganguly would be able to beat Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya. In the recent book from former coach of Australia and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Mr. John Buchanan wrote that Saurav Ganguly live in his own style. He praised Saurav Ganguly attitude to play. He compared saurav Ganguly with former Australian player Ian Chappel. He also wrote that Yuvraj Singh also wants to play like Saurav Ganguly but he doesn’t have the dignity and style like Saurav Ganguly had.

In other Cricket news, Indian Cricket team captain Mr. Mahendra Singh Dhoni had given examination for the B.Com first year and the result came out and you know what came in the result. He failed in the examination. Though, he is hero in Cricket but zero in education. Anybody can understand that he is illiterate from his poor English and comment in the media. He doesn’t understand the value and greatness of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Saurav Ganguly that's why he always uses to publish weak comment against them. I hope next time whenever Mahendra Singh Dhoni will get some free time from his Cricket then he will study for his exams other than shooting for advertisement. Last year, when he was asked in the award ceremony in Indian capital New Delhi to attend the Rajiv Gandhi sport of the year award along with India spin bowler Harbhajan Singh then both of them did not come to attend the award as they were full with overconfidence and money has made them proud. They were very poor and they are seeing money now so it has made them proud. But in case of Saurav Ganguly, he was rich from his childhood that's why he has great personality till now.

Finally, IPL2009 is over and Deccan Chargers Hyderabad is the winner of IPL 2009. The interesting thing was that the two bottom team of the 1st IPL 2008 met in the final of IPL 2009. In 2008 season, both Deccan Chargers Hyderabd and Royal Challenge Bangalore didn't do well but this year they showed their best.

Yesterday, Deccan Chargers Hyderabd batted first and they scored 145 in 20 overs and Bangalore lost by 6 wickets. Deccan Chargers Hyderabad captain lifted the trophy of IPL 2009. Last year, Rajasthan Royal captain Shane Warne had won. One thing was common in the both the winner team. The common thing was that the captain of both Rajashthan Royal Challenge and Deccan Chargers Hyderabad captain were from Australia.

While England may be celebrating their 2-0 victory over the West Indies – how would they be feeling ahead of Ashes 2009? There is no doubt that the quality of the test cricket played against the West Indies wasn’t the highest, and there is no doubt that Ashes cricket will be a considerable step-up in intensity.

The West Indies didn’t come to play and basically rolled over, you would never see this from an Australian cricket side, regardless of how cold it is.

Despite the fact that the English side, seems quite settled, they have some major selection issues they need to address ahead of the Ashes. Michael Vaughan and Andrew Flintoff were two of the main reasons why England won the Ashes in 2005. Vaughan was fantastic with the bat and his captaincy while Flintoff contributed with both bat and ball. While Ravi Bopara is a fine player, he is no Michael Vaughan. But he is an improvement on Ian Bell who didn’t contribute anything of note with the bat in the 2005 Ashes.

Against the West Indies, England played five batsmen and five bowlers. Surely the balance of the side is better if Flintoff plays as he can be in both camps.

Will England find a place for Monty Panesar? Australia’s spinning woes since the retirement of Shane Warne have been well documented. Given the stranglehold he held over England, It would be ironic if England had the better spinning options. Would England pick Panesar and Graeme Swann together in the same team?

While Geraint Jones was much maligned for his keeping in 2005 and received a lot of criticism, his batting was quite good. He was involved in a number of key lower order partnerships. England will be looking to Matt Prior to continue in the same vein. If England want to have any success in Ashes 2009 they will be looking at the lower order to show some resilience and not to crumble. Now, it is decided that IPL2009 will be played in South Africa and rest of the thing will be the same.Good news for all cricket lovers. Now, IPL will be played in South Africa. Due to General Elections in India, IPL tournament has to shift from India to South Africa. After the announcement of Indian Government that IPL will not be played in India, IPL Chairman Mr. Lalit made a trip to England and South Africa and he decided that the second series of IPL will be played in South Africa. He informed media reporters that the weather condition of South Africa is much more better than England in April-May that's why they have chosen South Africa.

South Africa has already hosted successful big tournament like Twenty-Twenty World cup and mini World Cup in recent times. South Africa Cricket Board has told that they will fully co-operate with Indian Cricket Boards to make the IPL successful outside India too.

Mr. Lalit Modi informed that all the IPL matches will be played in Indian Standard time and people in India can see the LIVE matches at 4.00 pm and 8.00 p.m IST. There will be no more changes in the IPL rules and games.

Finally, it is announced by the Indian Government that IPL Part II will not be played in India as the Election date and IPL matches are on the same month. IPL authorities submitted their revised dates and venues of IPL but it seems that Indian Government don't want to take rist after the Sri Lankan cricketers attacked in Lahore, Pakistan last month.

IPL chief executive Mr. Lalit Modi is on the trip of England and South Africa and one of these two country will host IPL 2009. South Africa is more likely because England is already going to host 20-20 World Cup in the month of early June. Mr. Lalit Modi also informed Indian press reporters that the new venue will be decided in the next 48 hours. Mr. Lalit Modi also confirmed that there will no change in the matches date will not be changed and format of the game will also be same as it was in first IPL series.

It is expecting that IP will do th business of more than Rs. 10, 000 crore directly or indirectly through IPL. But the main question will new country attract audience in the stadium and will it be as much successful as it was the IPL Part I.

Good News for IPL Indian Premier League Cricket Lovers. Today, Indian Premier League IPL Chairman Mr. Lait Modi informed reporters that Indian Premier League IPL is on now. Last week, after the attack on Sri Lankan players in Lahore, Pakistan, the Indian Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaran informed a Private News Channel NDTV reported Miss Barkha Dutt that due to election on the same month in APril and May it will be dificult to arrange the security specially the paramilitary forces. Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Mr. Lalit Modi told in the Mumbai Wankhede Stadium that they have sent the revised schedule to the Indian Government and they have approved it. Now, there will be no match on the election and polling result day.

Mr Lalit Modi, who is also the Indian cricket board vice-president, informed that earlier it was 44 days long series but now it is shortened to 30 days only.

It was also humor that Mr, P. Chidambaran forced IPL authorities to postpone the series but he totally declined it. and added that I did not say ever it should be postponed. He told that he is not blaming IPL authorities and IPL management because whey they had fixed the dates much earlier before the election date announced. Meanwhile, Mr. Lalit Modi and his men are working on a rescheduling the fixtures of IPL 2009. The IPL will be running from April 10th-May 24th and The general elections of Indian elections are scheduled to be held April 16th to May 13th, while poll counting will be on May 16th 2009. Mr. P. Chidambaram also showed his satisfaction that it was fortunate for Indian cricket team that they did not tour Pakistan and he also condemned this attack on Sri Lankan cricketer in Pakistan on 3rd March 2009.

Sri Lankan Team were heading towards the Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore for the third day (Tuesday 3rd March 2009) of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka test series. Now Sri Lankan Cricket officials Mr. Gamini Lokuge has canceled the Pakistan - Sri Lanka tour after the attack. There are six Sri Lankan players who were also injured but minor in this attack including Kumar Sangakarra.

The Sri Lankan team's assistant coach Mr. Paul Farbrace & cricketer Thilan Samarawera were also hospitalized. The other four players were also wounded but they had been discharged soon. Sri Lankan cricket team captain Mahela Jayawardena was also slightly wounded in the foot.

Mahela Jayawardene, Ajantha Mendis, Kumar Sangakkara, Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavitana are those being treated in hospital for minor injuries.

The second season of The Indian Premier League (IPL 2009) inaugurating from the April 10th and the final match of The Indian Premier League (IPL 2009) will be played on 29th March 2009 in Mumbai.

This year, Pakistani players are not participating because they have not got approval from the Pakistani Government to play in India. Expert predicts that Pakistani cricket board and Pakistani Government took this decision because Indian Cricket Team was also asked not to visit Pakistan year by keeping in mind of the tensions between India and Pakistan after Mumbai attack. Though, Indian Cricket team had approved Indian team to visit Pakistan and play Test Cricket, One Day International Cricket and Twenty-Twenty (20-20). Pakistani Player is also banned by IPL authorities for one year for taking drug during the first IPL season in 2008 but Asif denies it clearly.
