Sri Lankan cricketers attacked in Pakistan

Some masked gunmen in Pakistani city of Lahore started firing on the bus where Sril Lankan players were traveling. Six police officers were protecting the Sri Lankan players but unfortunately all of them killed by Pakistani Islamic Terrorist. With six policemen, there are other two civilians who were also killed in this terrorist attack. Total of 8 persons were killed.

This another terrorist attack in Pakistan run around 25 minutes and it is being said that they were targeting the Pakistan's private Television news channel Geo TV. Geo TV nowadays covering the latest news of Pakistan Swat Valley where Talibanis had captured it and implemented their own Islamic (Shahria Law) Law there in the whole Swat Valley region. Reporters are saying that all the terrorists were very well trained and they reached the place by rickshaw

Sri Lankan Team were heading towards the Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore for the third day (Tuesday 3rd March 2009) of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka test series. Now Sri Lankan Cricket officials Mr. Gamini Lokuge has canceled the Pakistan - Sri Lanka tour after the attack. There are six Sri Lankan players who were also injured but minor in this attack including Kumar Sangakarra.

The Sri Lankan team's assistant coach Mr. Paul Farbrace & cricketer Thilan Samarawera were also hospitalized. The other four players were also wounded but they had been discharged soon. Sri Lankan cricket team captain Mahela Jayawardena was also slightly wounded in the foot.

Mahela Jayawardene, Ajantha Mendis, Kumar Sangakkara, Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavitana are those being treated in hospital for minor injuries.

  1. Sadly, this is the reason why so few teams tour Pakistan any more.

    Until the Pakistani government crack down on the terrorists, countries are not; especially now, going to send their teams to possibly get killed.

    They made a mistake allowing the Taliban to take over the Swat Valley; their demands are going to get more and more frequent now.
